Ranchers will offer perspective at BLM’s Sage Grouse Open Houses
Cattlemen will offer perspective on proposed sage grouse plan
(January 3rd, 2014 – Salem, Oregon) – Representatives of the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) will be in attendance and available for interview at open houses – statewide – that concern the BLM’s drafted sage grouse management plan. These representatives are prepared to offer the perspective of the Oregon cattle industry and will be accompanied by ranchers local to each open house. Please contact Lauren Montgomery, Communications Officer for the OCA, by phone or email (contact information above) to schedule an interview with attending representatives.
In 2010 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service designated the Greater Sage Grouse as a candidate for Endangered Species Act (ESA) protection by ruling warranted but precluded. In 2015, as part of a court ordered settlement, the service will rule on whether to list the Greater Sage Grouse under the ESA. Ranchers across the state are refining sage grouse habitat conservation practices, in an effort to prevent a listing in 2015.
