EP FFA at state convention
March 23rd-26th, the Oregon FFA Association held its annual State Convention
at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center. There at the convention, the
2017-2018 State Officer Team held a number of sessions, during which they
congratulated those competing in a number of CDE (Career Development Event) areas,
recognized State Degree Recipients, Proficiency award winners, and gave their retiring
addresses. Although the sessions were serious most of the time, members had the
chance to have fun by dancing to the music being played before the session starts.
The Eagle Point FFA Chapter had a number of successes at the 2018 Oregon FFA
State Convention. Alyson Scheffler won her Proficiency area, Agricultural Sales, and is
the State Star in Agribusiness. Maddie Cox competed in the Beef Placement
Proficiency, competed for the State Star in Placement, and she was finalist for the
Oregon Fair’s Foundation Scholarship. Andrew Gmirkin competed in Extemporaneous
Speaking and was first place. He was also a recipient of the Ricksger Memorial
Scholarship. Hunter Foulon was a recipient of the WLC (Washington Leadership
Conference) Scholarship. This Scholarship will play for her registration cost. The
Chapter also had eight State Degree Recipients. Maddie Cox, Hunter Foulon, Kaity
Kelsey, Ashley Myers, Brianna Millard, Rachel Newton, Ashley Schauffler, and Alyson
Scheffler all received their State Degrees on the stage. Congratulations to everyone!
On Monday, March 26th, the final day of Convention, the 2018-2019 Oregon FFA
State Officer Team was elected. Congratulations to Andrew Gmirkin on being elected as
the 2018-2019 Oregon FFA State President!
Thank you to everyone who makes Convention possible. The Oregon FFA
sponsors, and the crew who set everything up and take everything down, as well as the
judges that decide upon the winners of CDEs.
