EP FFA competes at Chico
On March 10th, Chico State University held its FFA Field Day. Chapters from all
over California come to compete in a variety of contests. Eagle Point FFA competed in
their Livestock Judging Contest. We had eleven students travel, and ten students
compete. The teams looked at ten classes of livestock and gave four sets of reasons.
Our A Team consisted of Tyler Gifford, Paige Pesterfield, Sydney Baldwin, and Braydon
Dunbar. On our B Team was Arielle McMahan, Ashley Moser, Halee Castro, and
Maddie Sheraden, and our C Team was Peyton Daniels and Waylon Wayn. We also
had Andrew Gmirkin travel with the teams and was their assistant coach. The A Team
placed 14th out of 77 teams, and our B Team was 28th. Tyler Gifford was 28th out of
about 300 competitors. Paige Pesterfield was 60th.
On March 9th, the teams left, and traveled, stopping to practice judging at Tehama
Angus. They judged three classes of heifers and two classes of bulls. They also got the
chance to judge two classes of hogs at Hamilton City FFA’s school farm. On behalf of
Eagle Point FFA, I’d like to thank Tehama Angus and Hamilton City FFA for allowing our
teams to practice using your livestock, as well as everyone who put the contest at Chico
State University together.
