Wine & Agriculture Tour 2012

~Hosted by the Umpqua Soil & Water Conservation District~

On this year’s tour we will be visiting locations in the Elkton area including:

Gregory Flick’s stream bank stabilization project where Mr. Flick and the Soil & Water Conservation District constructed willow structures (wattles & walls) along the Umpqua River in order to reduce erosion and stabilize the stream bank.  Mr. Flick will also be giving a solar cooking demonstration and providing information on his solar panels for home energy.

Gillirose Vineyard where vineyard owner Gillian Sietz will provide us information on viticulture and, as a bonus, we will get to visit her rose garden.

Tomaselli’s Pastry Mill will be providing our lunch which will include pizza baked in Tomaselli’s wood fired pizza oven, green salad and a beverage.

Brandborg Winery where we will get to see the winemaking facility and learn more about the process and have the opportunity to sample wines in the tasting room.

Rudy & Rhonda Zimmer’s farm where they grow grass and alfalfa for hay production.  While we are there Mr. Zimmer will show us his haying equipment and describe how the equipment works to help him make hay while the sun shines!
